Getting ready for a new baby

After surviving the Christmas season and the start back to homeschooling, I am now finding myself compiling a list of things to do before the new baby comes. We found out on Christmas eve that baby is a boy! I had a neat idea that I had seen about wrapping cupcakes with either blue or pink frosting to tell siblings about the gender of their new sibling and so I couldn't help but decide to do this!

This is the reaction we received from the kids. You can tell Russell is thrilled but Katerina and Natalia seem a little disappointed. They were really hoping for a girl. But once we started getting the baby clothes out to inventory what we have and what we need, they really started to get excited.

So that is the first thing I did to get ready, I inventoried what I already had for baby. Turns out that we have a ton of baby boy clothes saved. Really I found we didn't NEED anything. However I still wanted to do a few things for this new little one. So I bought a cute dog fabric in a soft blue color to make a new boppy cover since the old one was looking a little worn. And the craziest idea started forming. What if I went back to cloth diapering to save even more money? Hmm...more on that later.

So what's a nesting mother to do in the four months until the new baby comes? Well we do need to reorganize the boys room/homeschool room. And I want to work with my hubby to build some new shelves in an unused closet we have. That should help keep me busy, well you know along with homeschooling, extra curricular activities, and general home management.

Our purpose

I am thinking a lot lately about what our purpose is and what our mission field is. You see I have had an occasion to help out with a sibling set of five kids from 11-5. Some people might say they don't have time or that it's too much when I already have 6 kids. But when we stretch ourselves and show others the love of Christ amazing things happen. We had these kids for about six weeks last summer and this time they will have only been here for a week. It is a lot but we have had a lot of fun too! My kids get some quality fun times with their cousins and have had a lot of kids to play with. So today I want to challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and do something extra for your family or friends or neighbors. Let's show the hope we have in Christ as love shown for others!

What I've been up to...

So as you can see the crickets have been chirping on here the past few days. Meanwhile I've been busy starting physical therapy, getting kids to dentist appointments, and just in general doing those mom/homemaking/homeschooling things.

Katerina and I finally got to go see Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The new Chronicles of Narnia movie. We've been working through the entire series as a read aloud for school and I promised her we'd go see it as a field trip. We had a lot of fun! The movie theatre was completely empty except for us during the matinee. This was awesome because I could explain things to Katerina as she asked questions. The movie was really scary towards the end though so I'd be careful with young kids. Natalia was with us, of course, and she started crying a little so she ended up on my lap and was starting to fall asleep instead of watching.

Other things we've been doing is working on getting the house back into super clean mode. While it has been kept clean with our new chore system, there are still parts of deep cleaning that need to get done. I'm slowly working my way through the house. Last Friday I got the living room back to normal. This weekend I am working on the kitchen. Basically washing the fronts of cabinets and reorganizing the shelves.

Well I guess that's it for an update. See you all on Monday for Menu Plan Monday.

A really great cookbook!

The Jeub family is once again offering some outstanding deals on their cookbooks, Love in the Kitchen 1 and 2. I have the first one and love it! I use it at least twice a week in our menu planning. It even has recipes for some fun things for the kids like caramel popcorn, which my kids thought was awesome! The really neat thing is that now it is November and it is time to start thinking about that special person in your life who could really enjoy a new cookbook or two. I personally have the second one on my wishlist for this Christmas. So head on over and check it out! Also check out the other great resources they have.

In other news I am hanging in their and trying to obey doctor's orders with my foot and just sit still and keep it up. This makes it hard to be on the computer very often (although today I snuck on before anyone catches me. LOL.) I hope all of you are well and enjoying the pretty November days!

How to scare your family

On Saturday I was at my brother's house helping him paint his softettes on his roof when the ladder I was standing on gave way beneath me. Next thing I remember I'm in my brother's car speeding to the hospital and asking him what's going on. It was so weird to lose time like that. Turns out that when I fell I hit my left ankle first and then bounced my head on the ground twice. This knocked me out for a few seconds and scared my brother half to death. After a few hours in the emergency room we found out I had a concussion and a fractured ankle. Turns out I have a pretty hard head though because it was only mild. Feeling pretty sore and I'm not sure how often I'll be updating for the next week or two until I'm feeling better. I'm praising God that He watched over me and allowed my injuries to be very minor.

Having Fun!

This week has been a blast! My husband and I went on our getaway. It was so much fun getting to hang out together and spend those moments where we can talk uninterrupted by kids. I love my kids so much, but every once in a while it's so nice to get away to where it's peaceful and quiet. I even got to sleep in until 8:30am! Wow! Then Thursday we spent the rest of the day in the yard. Steve roto tilled the garden for me. He kept suggesting making it bigger here or there, so what started out already as a big garden has become a really big garden. I can't wait to get out there and start planting some of things that can be planted now. Unfortunately it's raining today. But before it started raining I went to the park with the two little girls and met up with a friend from church and her kids. It was so much fun to just let the kids play and sit and talk about mommy things. After such an exciting week I'm feeling recharged and ready to go!
